A Freedom of Information request by neighbours and follow up enquiries by the Community Council have shown that Campbell Avenue and Murrayfield Road were speed-monitored in June 2025. This was to assess the effect of soft speed reduction measures. The City Council's speed reduction site program is looking at these roads.
According to the City Council, Campbell Avenue speeds have long been above the higher tolerance level, for a signed 20 mph road and Murrayfield Road above normal tolerance level. Traffic survey data showed that on Campbell Avenue, east of Campbell Road, from 18 – 24 February 2019, the average recorded speed was 28 mph; and on Murrayfield Road it was 26.4 mph, between Kinellan Gardens & Campbell Avenue from 14 – 20 March 2019.
"Soft speed management" measures were taken on Campbell Avenue (refreshing and/or adding road markings and signs). Monitoring after 3 and 12 months is done to show if further action is needed. (Physical measures are considered if high speeds continue or if there is a history of collisions).
